The Palace of The South
One of the most advanced antebellum houses in America, the Johnston-Felton-Hay House in Macon was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1974. Completed in 1859 in the Italian Renaissance Revival style, Hay House remains an architectural masterpiece. Its decorative finishes, craftsmanship and technological innovations continue to capture the eyes and imaginations of visitors just as it did in 1860 when a reporter declared the home “…a splendid mansion which can truly be called the palace of the south.”
